Marking System

Determining Grade Point Average The courses included in the determination of a student’s Grade Point Average (GPA) are those offered on-campus at Mt. Anthony Union High School during the regular school year.
  • Regular education required courses that are numerically graded.
  • Regular education 90 minute elective courses that are numerically graded.
  • The following 50 minute classes: Chorus, Band, Health, Physical Education, and all 50 minute courses that fill the Technology requirement.
High school level courses taken during middle school will not be counted on the student’s GPA.

A differential weighting system is used to calculate grade point average. Effective in the fall of 2002, all grades are plotted on a 100-point scale. The minimum passing grade is 65.

Numerical Grades & Grade Points

The following is a weighted chart conversion using the 100-point scale (x 1.05). Numerical grades at five point intervals with their grade points and weighted grade points are:

Grade    Grade Points    Weighted Grade Points

     100              4.0                     4.1

     95                3.91                   4.0

     90                3.5                     3.91

     85                3.0                     3.4

     80                2.5                     2.9

     75                2.0                     2.4

     70                1.5                     1.9

     65                1.0                     1.3

Note:  65 is the lowest passing grade.

Honor Roll

Honor Roll is determined by using designated core courses (85 and 55 minute) that are numerically graded. Four honor rolls will be based on quarter marks because all students have a quarter grade each grading period. Only specified short blocks are included in honor roll calculation.

Principal’s Honors – Students who maintain a 95% or above average, with no grade below 90%.

High Honors – Students who maintain a 90% or above average, with no grade lower that 85%.

Honors – Students who maintain an 85% or above average, with no grade lower than an 80%.

Honorable Mention – Students who maintain an 85% or above average, with no grade lower than a 75%.

To qualify for honor roll, students grades 9-11 must have a total of three and one half (3 ½) credits (or the equivalent to a full daily schedule) per semester. Seniors must have a minimum of two and one half (2 ½) credits per semester.

Off campus college courses will not be included.
